A National Virtual Language Lab (ANVILL)

Language labs provide valuable opportunities for students to connect with others and for teachers to include technology in the classroom. Yet, not all schools have the funds or resources to support the necessary computers and services. The Yamada Language Center and CASLS created A National Virtual Language Lab (ANVILL) to help all schools access the power of online language tools. Using Web technology, students can communicate with each other through voice boards and group chats. ANVILL also incorporates other online language tools such as assessments and a content-based management system optimized for language learning.

ANVILL Features

  • Available free of charge
  • Web-based
  • Voice board for asynchronous communication
  • Real time, audio/video group chat
  • Media-based assessment tool
  • Content management system
  • Accommodates other media content and Web-based resources like blogs, wikis, and podcasts
