Articulation Through Standards

Preliminary research using STAMP as a measurement of proficiency indicates that proficiency levels vary widely, even within the same classroom. Nonetheless, these distributions provide valuable information to universities setting placement policies and K-12 programs setting proficiency goals. The charts below are based on preliminary data gathered nationwide. In general, “years of study” refers to students in the spring term of that year, though some data was collected at other times of the year or during intensive summer programs. More systematic and controlled research is currently underway.

Japanese 1st year of study Japanese 2nd year of study Japanese 3rd year of study

French 1st year of study French 2nd year of study French 3rd year of study
