Oregon Chinese Flagship Program

In today's global society, students need language and culture skills to become successful. The Oregon Chinese Flagship Program prepares students to use their Mandarin Chinese language skills and cultural understandings in a diverse range of professions.

Portland Public Schools provide K-12 students with content-based instruction, explicit language instruction, and experiential learning practices. This immersion experience creates a solid foundational understanding of Chinese language and culture.

Once selected as University of Oregon Chinese Flagship Scholars, students enroll in a four-year, honors-level program. They systematically develop professional-level language proficiency as they pursue majors in their own areas of academic interest. Students graduate with professional language skills and cross-cultural understanding, making them competitive for the job market or graduate school.

The Language Flagship, funded through the National Security Education Program (NSEP), sponsors this program for students studying Chinese language and culture.
