For excellence, opportunities, innovation, and results

The Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) at the University of Oregon and the Asia Society jointly hosted the Establishing K-12 Critical Language Programs Workshop April 25-27, 2007, at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon.

This hands-on workshop was designed for FLAP grantees and other institutions planning to establish language programs in Chinese and other less commonly taught languages. The goal of the workshop was to provide knowledge and consultation to those establishing new programs, to create a community of practice of world language educators, and to support developing programs. Participants attended optional site visits to Portland Public Schools on April 25. On April 26 and 27, national experts and leaders in the world language education field shared expertise and offered practical advice to participants during plenary and breakout sessions. For additional information, please download the official workshop agenda.
