I. BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR TEACHERS

Teacher Instructions

  1. Before class prepare the handout and the transparency.

  2. Distribute the handout and have the students do #1 ~ 4 in Activity 1.

  3. Go over the answers with the class using the transparency. Use the map of North and Central America if necessary.

  4. Have the students do #5 in groups. Have some groups share what they discussed.

  5. Have the students do Activity 2.

  6. Check their answers. As you go over the answer for #2, introduce new vocabulary and review the old one.

II. STUDENT ACTIVITY HANDOUTS

1. Look at the roster of players from two professional baseball teams. One is in the U.S., the other Japan.

1) Which roster is for "ヤンキーズ (New York Yankees)" and which is for "ジャイアンツ (Tokyo Giants)"? Write the name of the team on top of each roster.

2) Looking at the New York Yankees' roster, answer the following questions:

a. アメリカ人の選手は何人いますか。＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿
b. 中央アメリカ1出身の選手は何人いますか。＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿

3) Looking at the Tokyo Giants' roster, answer the following questions:
