I. BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR TEACHERS

Teacher Instructions

1.Before class prepare the handout and the transparency.

2.Show the students the <Pre-listening activity> section of Transparency. In pairs, have them do the activity. Have the class share their ideas. Write them down on the transparency.

3.Show the <Getting main idea> section to the students. Play the video and have the students do the activity. Review the answer.

4.Show the <Useful vocabulary> section and introduce each vocabulary word.

5.Distribute Handout and play the video twice. Have the students answer the questions. Review the answers and play the video again.

Narrator:

一年前から着物を着るようになったという加藤みのりさん。

Reporter:

お家にいらっしゃるときもお着物を着ていらっしゃるんですか。

Kato:

はい、そうです、はい。

Narrator:

加藤さんは友人の結婚式で着物を着たことがきっかけとなり、普段の生活でも着物で過ごすようになったという。

Reporter:

ご主人ですか。

Husband:

はい。

Reporter:

どうもはじめまして。

Husband:

あ、こんにちは。

Reporter:

あれ、ご主人はお着物じゃないんですか。

Husband:

はい?ええ、普段は。

Kato:

普段はねえ。

Reporter:

え、普段は、

Kato:

たまに着せちゃったりするんですけど。

Reporter:

奥様が?

Kato:

はい。

Reporter:

あ、じゃ、たまには・・・着てらっしゃる・・・

Husband:

着せられてます。

Kato:

着せられてる。

Husband:

着せられてます。

Narrator:

現在、法律事務所で働く加藤さんも着物で出勤することがあるという。

Kato:

着付けは全部で、、、十五分ぐらいですかあ。

(Unknown):

ああ。

Narrator:

着物で出かける日はいつもより三十分早く起きて準備をし、早めに自宅を出る。

Kato:

いままで、洋服だったらぎりぎりに起きて、で、もう、慌ただしくばたばたと着て出かけていたのが、やっぱり着物はそれなりに時間もかかりますし、、、例えば、三十分前で間に合っていたところを一時間ぐらい前に起きたりとか、、して、で、そうすると、その、余った部分でゆったり、こう、準備ができて、出かけられる。

Reporter:

逆に早起きしなければいけなくなっちゃったとか、

Kato:

そうですね、でも、なんか別に、着物のためだったらいいかなあって思いますけど。

Narrator:

炊事洗濯などの家事をするときはエプロンではなく、かっぽう着を着る加藤さん。こうした着物生活を始めてから生活にある変化があったという。

Kato:

洋服を買わなくなりました。

Husband:

洋服を買うときも、こう、私のさいふから、こう、出てたときもあったんですけど、そういう意味じゃ、今の方が私は助かります。

Reporter:

そうですか。

<Pre-listening activity>

In the next segment, a reporter visits a young woman at her house. She started to wear a kimono everyday about a year ago. What kind of questions do you think the reporter is going to ask her and her husband? She works for a law company and they have no children. In pairs, guess interview questions and write them down.   

<Getting main idea>

Watch the video to see which of the questions you guessed in the pre-listening activity are being asked. Be aware that you won’t always hear the question. Sometimes you need to guess what question is being asked based on what you hear and see in the video.
