I. BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR TEACHERS

Teacher Instructions

1. Before class prepare the handout and the transparency.
   
   
2. Using the the website Tezuka Osamu World, introduce 鉄腕アトム(1962). Tell them that this TV anime in 60's and 70's served as a foundation of today's anime. Using the images of the anime characters and video clip on the website, have the students guess the storyline. Have them also use the title as a hint (鉄腕アトム). You may want to use the video in 鉄腕アトム新(1980) as well. If you don't have an Internet access, use Transparency 1.
   
   
3. Distribute the handout. In pairs, have the students read the short description of "Tetsuwan Atomu" and answer the comprehension questions. Review their answers.
