II. STUDENT ACTIVITY HANDOUTS

かみしばいを作ろう

Let's Make a Picture-story Show

  1. Form groups of three.
  2. Pick an ukiyoe and develop a story based on the ukiyoe. In your story, narrate an event and describe its nature. You also need to use at least ten new vocabulary words you learned in this Tokaido unit.
  3. Draft your script and pictures. Before writing the script, divide the story into three parts and be sure each student writes a third of the story. You can use papers and pencils or use any technology tools if you wish.
  4. Exchange scripts among groups members and give feedback to each other. Check to see if the three parts can be combined and transitioned smoothly. You will receive a score based on the entire script of your group.
  5. Turn in the draft of your script and pictures and have your teacher check them.
  6. After you receive feedback from your teacher on your script, practice the picture-story show.
  7. Present your picture-story show in class.

III. FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITIES

Students' picture-story shows could be posted on a web site. If your school has a sister school in Japan, you can have Japanese students read the picture-story shows and give your students comments.
