I. BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR TEACHERS

 Teacher Instructions

Step 1. Before class prepare a handout.

Step 2. Place students into groups of four, and assign each group a category.

Step 3. Have groups come up with four different answers for their designated category. These questions will later be used to play Jeopardy.

Step 4. Play Jeopardy.

Materials

Handout for each group of three students, indicating the category of their questions/answers.

Suggestions

Each group will receive one handout indicating the category of their questions/answers.  They will write their four questions/answers directly on the handout and turn it into the teacher at the end of this activity.

Suggested categories:

La geografía de España
La geografía del País Vasco
La cultura vasca
El viaje del País Vasco a Oregon
La comunidad vasca en Oregon
Motivos por la decisión de ir a Oregon (push-pull factors)

Notes

This activity is a final review activity at the end of the unit on Basque immigration to Oregon. 

The teacher will use the student-generated questions and answers in this exercise to create the final review game of Jeopardy (¡PELIGRO!).

1. Review question formation and write a couple of questions together as a class before the groups begin on their own questions. 

2. The teacher can add her/his own categories with vocabulary or verbs, organizing the categories by degree of difficulty.

II. STUDENT ACTIVITY HANDOUTS

Handout 1

Working in a group of four students, review the information from the category your group has been given on the handout from your teacher.  Write four answers for your category, and then write the question to each answer.  Remember that just in the game of Jeopardy, you will see the answer first and have to ask the question to win the points.
