I.  BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR TEACHERS

Teacher Instructions

Step 1. Have students randomly choose five words from the master list of vocabulary learned in this unit and write them legibly, in very large print, on a large sheet of newsprint. Collect the sheets and mix them up in random order.

Step 2. Divide the class into two teams. Two students from Team A come to the front of the class and sit facing each other. Choose one of the sheets of vocabulary at random from the pile, and display it behind a player so that the word list behind the player is not visible to him/her.

Step 3. Set a time limit for each turn (e.g., 2 minutes). Have a student volunteer from the opposite team act as timer. When the timer gives the signal, one student begins to explain/define the word visible to him from the sheet behind his teammate—without saying the key word, or any form thereof. The student who is guessing the terms should try to get as many as possible in the time specified, and for each term correctly guessed, he/she gets one point.

Step 4. When Team A has finished, two students from Team B come forward, with a volunteer from Team A serving as timer, to repeat the process. After a predetermined number of rounds in this fashion, the team with the most points wins.
