College Readiness Academy
Intensive High School Swahili Program
The College Readiness Academy offered an intensive high school Swahili program through a two-week residential summer program followed by an online semester-long program. Students worked toward language and culture proficiency while earning high school language credit.
Students attended a two-week residental summer intensive program at the University of Oregon. During the summer program, they enrolled in classes and engaged in cultural activities. In addition to providing high-quality language and culture instruction, the College Readiness Academy included college counseling and financial aid sessions.
After the intensive summer session, students had the option of enrolling in Swahili Hermes, an online language and culture learning program. These thematic units featured content and issues from the language’s culture. Hermes helped students build upon and document their language learning, which is essential to the long-term goal of sustainable learning.
