Our virtual study abroad program provides a cost-effective, flexible way to boost your English language and intercultural communication skills when traditional study abroad travel is not possible.

The Virtual Oregon Experience Program is a two-week interactive course delivered with a personal touch. You will meet with a live instructor and other English speakers for one hour twice each week while completing modules about teaching and learning intercultural communication through goal setting or global sustainability. The modules will take approximately 2-3 hours each day to complete.

Economical

  • Two-credit experience for $600 USD or
  • Non-credited experience for $300 USD

Course description
In this course, you’ll learn how to use goal setting and reflection to improve intercultural communication, both as a learner and future teacher. First, you will learn skills to improve intercultural communication when speaking English. You will then explore ways goal setting, reflection, and portfolio use can improve both your own language learning and your growth as a future teacher.

Course structure
You’ll meet with a live instructor and other English speakers two times per week for one hour each time. The first meeting will take place on Mondays or Tuesdays – you choose which day works best for you – and the second meeting will take place on Thursday or Friday – again, you choose which day works best for you.

For the remainder of the course, you’ll work through a total of four modules, two each week. The modules are accessible through a learning management system called Canvas and will take you about 2-4 hours each day to complete. Through the program, you will have the opportunity to connect with instructors, experts in the field, English speakers, and other international peers.

Course description
In this course, you’ll become familiar with the seventeen sustainability initiatives from the United Nations. You will learn about sustainability practices in international business, in American educational systems, and in local communities. During the class, you will participate in a virtual campus tour of the University of Oregon focused on sustainability. Guest lectures from experts in the field, lectures from core instructors, and class discussions will also be included. Students will select an issue related to sustainability that interests them, research the issue, and give a virtual presentation on their discoveries.

Refund Policy

  • 75% of program fee will be refunded if cancelled five weeks or more before your selected start date
  • 50% of program fee will be refunded if cancelled three or four weeks before your selected start date
  • 25% of program fee will be refunded if cancelled two weeks before your selected start date
