Oregon International Internship Program (OIIP)
Bringing the World to Oregon
- Level: College
- Languages: Chinese, Japanese
Integrating language and culture learning with practical career experience makes a powerful combination, and CASLS proudly provides this opportunity for students from universities in China, Japan, and Taiwan. Through the Oregon International Internship Program, students enroll in academic courses and serve as interns in K-12 classrooms in Eugene and Springfield, Oregon. These students learn from master teachers as they introduce Japanese or Chinese culture, participate in the American educational system, and expand their English language skills.
Oregon International Internship Program – China & Taiwan
Students enroll in a course designed to specifically explore intercultural communication while they complete an experiential learning opportunity in Eugene-Springfield area schools. Students earn credit directly through the University of Oregon. Throughout the program, students explore U.S. culture while they live with a local family in addition to developing a more nuanced understanding of U.S. educational systems and language pedagogy. Students receive support through a dedicated director and coordinator.
Oregon International Internship Program – Japan
Students enroll in courses for one-term through the American English Institute and then complete a one-term internship in Eugene-Springfield area schools. They receive support through a dedicated coordinator and live with a local family.
Beginning in summer 2016, CASLS will offer an expanded OIIP-Japan program. During the summer, students will complete a four-week, place-based language learning program. Then, they will enroll in courses through the American English Institute and culminate their learning with a one-term internship in Eugene-Springfield area schools. Students receive support through a dedicated director and coordinator and live with a local family.
