Oregon International Internship Program (OIIP)
Bringing the World to Oregon
- Level: University
- Languages: Chinese and Japanese learners of English
- Cost: Varies by program year and duration
We believe communication is the goal of language learning. Students need real-life experiences using a second language in context to achieve this goal. We’re proud to offer a practical career experience for Chinese and Japanese learners of English.
Through the Oregon International Internship Program (OIIP), students from universities in China, Japan, and Taiwan combine their English language and culture learning with an internship. They enroll in academic courses and complete internships in K-12 classrooms in Eugene and Springfield, Oregon. OIIP students learn from master teachers as they introduce Japanese or Chinese culture, participate in the American educational system, and expand their English language skills.
Oregon International Internship Program – China & Taiwan
Students enroll in a course designed to examine intercultural communication while they complete an experiential learning opportunity in Eugene and Springfield area schools. Students earn credit directly through the University of Oregon and live with a local family. Throughout the six-month program, students develop a nuanced understanding of U.S. educational systems and language pedagogy. They receive support through a dedicated program director.
Oregon International Internship Program – Japan
Students begin their nine-month program in the summer by completing a month-long, place-based language learning program called the Oregon Experience Program. Then, they enroll in courses for two terms through the American English Institute. These courses are designed to support students’ English language learning. Students’ learning culminates in a one-term internship in Eugene and Springfield area schools. They receive support through a dedicated program director and live with a local family.
