Previous Assessment Projects

For over twenty years, we at CASLS have supported world language teaching and learning. Our projects include curriculum, assessment, research, and direct student instruction. Although our funding doesn’t always allow us the ability to maintain the projects, we continue to provide the materials created.

Computerized Assessment of Proficiency (CAP)
Languages: Hebrew, Hindi, Persian, and Turkish
The Computerized Assessment of Proficiency (CAP) was an online language assessment that documented students’ proficiency. CAP helped students and teachers identify students’ proficiency levels and areas of both mastery and growth.

National Online Early Language Learning Assessment (NOELLA)
Languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish
NOELLA was an online language assessment in reading, speaking, listening, and writing for students in elementary school learning. NOELLA is now offered through Avant Assessment as STAMP4Se.

Pulsar (Powered by LFO)
Languages: Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Swahili, and Russian
In collaboration with the National Foreign Language Center at the University of Maryland, CASLS developed a version of LinguaFolio Online designed to meet the specialized needs of learners enrolled in STARTALK summer programs.

Standards-based Measurement of Proficiency (STAMP)
Languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish
CASLS developed four-skills online proficiency assessments, which are now offered through Avant Assessment as STAMP4S.
